David Duriesmith is a Lecturer in Gender & Politics at the University of Sheffield. Prior to working at the University of Sheffield, he held posts at the University of Queensland and the University of Melbourne.
For the past 13 years Dr Duriesmith has researched masculinities, armed conflict and violence prevention. Recent publications include “Masculinities and Disengagement from Jihadi Networks” in Studies in Conflict & Terrorism, “Engaging or changing men? Understandings of masculinity and change in the new ‘men, peace and security’ agenda” in Peacebuilding and “From ‘It Rarely Happens’ to ‘It’s Worse for Men’ Dispelling Misconceptions about Sexual Violence against Men and Boys in Conflict and Displacement” in the Journal of Humanitarian Affairs. He has also conducted projects on how masculinities impact the transformation of war, the politics of responding to male supremacist violent extremism, the gender dynamics of peacebuilding, and feminist international relations theory.
