Mossarat is co-founder of PAIMAN Alumni Trust, a pioneering organisation in Preventing/Countering violent extremism (P/CVE) and Inclusive Peace Education in Pakistan.
Mossarat is internationally known expert on P/CVE, de-radicalization, women peace, religion and security and has spoken in the UN General Assembly and Security Council on the subject. She is the member of International Review Panel of GCERF, CVE Expert Group Commonwealth CVE Unit, WASL and ‘Commonwealth Women Mediators Network’. She advocates in the realm of women peace and security at the national and international level.
To all her work, Mossarat brings the knowledge and experience she acquired during her 14 years as a political science professor at the University of Peshawar. She has published two books, written many articles, and produced documentaries on women in conflict, P/CVE etc.
She formed a women-led movement of women and youth civic leaders ‘TOLANAs’ to prevent violent extremism and build peaceful communities. A pioneer in engaging Pakistani women leaders of all faith in inter/intra-faith dialogue after building their capacities in using arts and entrepreneurship as tool for interfaith, intra-faith harmony and mediation.
From the platform of PAIMAN she has initiated a unique model of Peace Education by bringing together teachers and students of Madrassas and elite private schools and has developed an Inclusive Peace Curriculum for both.
She was a minister of information and also a member of National Commission on the Status of Women. She has been working in advisory capacity with Government of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa since 20014 and has also contributed to PVE strategy of Pakistan.
Mossarat holds a master’s degree in political science, Peshawar University as well in Gender studies International Institute of Social Sciences, Den Hague, M.Phil degree in International Politics, University of Hull and MCPA from J.F. Kennedy School of Governance, Harvard. She is a visiting fellow at Center for Women peace and Security, London School of Economics.
She is recipient of many prestigious national and international awards including the prestigious UN N-Peace Award 2016 Action for Change for her unprecedented work in the field of C/PVE and Woman Peacemaker fellow 2019 John B. Crock Institute, University of San Diego.
