Faddy Gladys Canogura (Uganda)

Faddy Gladys Canogura is Founder and Executive Director of Kitgum Women Peace Initiative (KIWEPI) women-founded organization advocating, peace, reconciliation, recovery and healing in Uganda.

She is a human rights defender, peacebuilder, and activist. She won the European Union human rights defender award in May 2015 and the French award of a woman of resistant I’m August 2015.

In 2011-2016 Kitgum District Local Government awarded Ms.Gladys with the certificate of unwavering commitments and rendering services in poverty reduction and sustainable development, women economic empowerment, food security, peacebuilding, violence against women and girls, and gender equality.

On March 8, 2021, during the women’s day celebration, the Chairman Local council V Kitgum District Local Government acknowledged and recognised the outstanding contributions of Ms.Canogura in the fight against sexual gender-based violence and violence against women and girls, social injustices, psychsocial support services and gender equality.

Kitgum NGOForum in December 2021 recognized Ms.Gladys contributions and performance in Kitgum and Lamwo Districts on localisation of UNSCR1325/1820 on women peace and security agenda identifying and addressing problems facing the community at grassroots levels.

Ms. Canogura holds a bachelor’s degree in education from MUK, diploma in peacebuilding and conflict resolution, master’s in educational administration and planning, and a certificate in peace, justice and human rights.
