Amel Grami, PhD is a Professor of Islamic Studies and Gender Studies at The University of Manouba/Tunis. Dr. Grami is a human rights and women’s rights activist, and she has conducted trainings on media and gender, activists under fundamentalists threats, and women and politics.
She was a member of the High Committee of Human Rights in Tunisia (2012-2013) and a member of the Anti-Corruption Arab Foundation (2015). Dr. Grami is also an active member of numerous research groups covering such topics as Islamic-Christian dialogues and religious discourse. In addition, she is a member of Women in Mediterranean Countries; Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom; the alliance of international women fighting against violence, “Activism Meets Academia”; and serves on the board of the Warwick. Dr. Grami is a columnist at Le Maghreb (a Tunisian Newspaper) and Eshorouk (an Egyptian Newspaper) and has authored several books and articles. Dr. Grami received her Ph.D. from the University of Tunis in 1993 and holds a Doctorat d’Etat from the University of Manouba, Tunisia for her work “Difference in Islamic Culture.”
